In 2003, the Institute of Strategic Studies was founded to provide graduate education in the fields of security and strategy within the Turkish War Colleges Command.
Within the scope of restructuring the Turkish professional military education, the Law numbered 6756 and dated 9 November 2016 with the title of “The Enactment of the Decree Law under the title of Taking Precautions within the State of Emergency and Foundation of National Defence University and some other Amendments” established the Turkish National Defence University (TNDU). Cabinet Decree numbered 2016/9522 and dated 14 November 2016 established the academic units of the TNDU and the Atatürk Institute of Strategic Studies (AISS) started its activities.
Our mission is
to plan, implement, and supervise post-graduate education, certificate programs or course modules in the field of strategy, social, humanities, and administrative sciences and in the areas primarily needed by Turkish Ministry of National Defence and Turkish Armed Forces,
to provide academic consultancy services,
to conduct research and development activities in the field of social sciences related to national defence and security and to support research projects conducted by public institutions or organizations in this field,
to organize international scientific activities or to publish academic papers and books, which will meet the needs of national defence on the strategic level, and
to cooperate with similar scientific or professional institutions and organizations at national or international level.
Our Vision is
to produce knowledge and to educate qualified personnel, who meet the national needs through international perspective, within the framework of civil-military cooperation under the requirements of the era.
