Message of the Director Starting its activities as of a subordinate institute of Turkish National Defence University (TNDU) as of 14 November 2016, Ataturk Institute of Strategic Studies (AISS) has taken over the 15 years of institutional experience and traditions of Strategic Studies Institute which provided graduate education under the Turkish War Colleges between 2003 and 2016. Under the TNDU, AISS has the organizational structure in which civil and military academic personnel will work together and will provide education and research-and-development activities on both local and global scales with its ten departments, most of which are first examples in their respective areas. Currently, AISS offers ten M.A. programs and two Ph.D. programs. Choosing the symbol of Phoenix which is the mark for a journey to the truth and rebirth in the ancient Eastern myths, AISS aims to live up to the name of Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, after whom the institute is named, in the fields of science and literature.
