Assist. Prof. Dr. Hayati Ünlü
Dr. Ünlü, who works as a faculty member at Joint Warfare Institute at Turkish National Defense University in Istanbul, was born in 1985 in Soma, Manisa. Having completed his primary, secondary and high school education here, Ünlü graduated from the Department of International Relations at Gazi University (Ankara) in 2008 and commenced his graduate studies at Selcuk University (International Relations) in 2009. During this period, he held a fellowship position at The University of Texas at Tyler in the USA with a YÖK scholarship and completed his graduate education in 2012. Ünlü, who commenced his doctorate education in the same year, graduated from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul University with a thesis titled "Change of the Dominant Party System in India: An Institutional Analysis" in 2019.
Ünlü commenced to work as a Research Assistant at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Şırnak University in 2009, and worked as a Research Assistant (Article 35) in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the Faculty of Political Sciences at Ankara University for 5 years and at the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University for 2 years. During this period, he worked as a advisor for institutions such as the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (Ankara) and the Türkiye Maarif Foundation (TMV). He currently serves as an advisor to the President of the Türkiye Maarif Foundation (Istanbul).
His fields of study are comparative political institutions, strategy and security, state-society relations, nationalism and political parties regarding the geographies of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Türkiye. Ünlü, who has worked in many think tanks in Turkey, especially in the South Asian Center for Strategic Studies (GASAM), has many reviews in think tanks such as GASAM, ORSAM and ASEM, as well as in media outlets such as Daily Sabah, Star-Açık Görüş, AA Analysis and TRT Haber. Ünlü has an advanced level of English and Persian proficiency, and an intermediate level of Russian proficiency.
