Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mürsel DOĞRUL
Associate Professor Dr Mürsel Doğrul is a faculty member at the Joint War College of the National Defence University. He specialises in international relations, security studies and Asia-Pacific affairs, and has particular expertise in Japanese foreign policy and the political economy of energy. He received his MA in International Relations from Necmettin Erbakan University for his thesis on “The Counterterrorism Policy of Japan” and earned his PhD from the National Defence University with distinction for his dissertation titled “The Middle East in Japan’s Foreign Policy: The Energy Political Economy”. He has also conducted research and studies in Romania and Spain, and held prestigious post-doc fellowships at Meiji University and the University of Tokyo in Japan.
Dr. Doğrul teaches a wide range of interdisciplinary courses, including Global-Regional System Analysis, Security Issues and Research, Terrorism and Security, and Scientific Research Techniques and Publication Ethics, at the National Defence University. He has also delivered specialized modules on cyber intelligence and global maritime risks at the NATO Maritime Security Centre of Excellence. His research interests include international security, energy policy, critical and cyber security studies, and science diplomacy. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and book volumes and is actively involved in international academic collaborations and policy advisory work.
In addition to his academic role, Dr. Doğrul advises the President of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and represents the Turkish Young Academy. He actively engages in science diplomacy efforts and contributes to global dialogues through platforms such as the International Science Council (ISC), All European Academies (ALLEA) and the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP). Dr Doğrul speaks advanced English and intermediate Japanese, and can be found on ORCID (0000-0002-0637-843X) and Web of Science ResearcherID (M-5164-2018).
